Collectibles · dust covers and stackable cases
A figure box has two jobs: fit the piece with clearance, and keep dust out. Everything else is a bonus on top of those two.
The most common rework on figure boxes is sizing to the body height and forgetting the base, the effect parts, the hair tip or the stand. The second most common is building a cover with no proper base, so the whole thing is top-heavy and goes over the first time someone nudges the shelf.
Three measurements matter: overall height including base and highest protrusion, base diameter or footprint, and the widest protrusion (cape, weapon, hair). Add 20–40 mm to overall height for clearance and LED thickness.
| Type | Typical overall height | Base footprint | Suggested internal height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blind box / prize figure | 75–120 mm | 80 × 80 mm | 150 mm |
| 1/7 scale | 220–250 mm | Ø150–180 mm | 300 mm |
| 1/6 scale | 250–320 mm | 200 × 200 mm | 380 mm |
| 1/4 scale | 400–500 mm | 250 × 250 mm | 560 mm |
| Model kit / brick build | Depends on the build | Per baseplate | Height + 50 mm |
For retail runs, do not size every box to the largest piece on the shelf. Two or three internal-height bands — say 150 / 300 / 560 mm — with one shared fixing detail gives a much tidier wall and far less empty volume.
There is also the bonding method, which is easy to overlook. Solvent-bonded boxes show no fasteners but cannot be taken apart; screw-and-clip boxes can be re-panelled and ship flat. For store display we lean to the second, for a single collector piece to the first.
Dust rejection is the primary function. A closed structure with a tight door gap is enough. In humid climates we do not recommend a fully sealed box: leave a 2–3 mm vent low in the back panel, or include a desiccant, so temperature swings do not fog the inside.
Acrylic blocks some UV, but long exposure to direct sun still fades paint, especially near windows or under close-range spotlights. No sheet specification solves that — only the position of the display does.
Three lighting approaches work well: a strip inside the top panel (light falls from above), a ring in the base (silhouettes the piece, good for dark figures), or a back-panel wash (reads as a silhouette). Put the cable exit as an 8–10 mm notch in the lower back panel.
| Retail display | Collector storage | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Modular, stackable, a few standard height bands | One-off, sized per piece, demountable |
| Opening | Magnetic front door for quick re-merchandising | Slide or lift-off, seal first |
| Security | Hidden lock position or a locked cabinet | Usually not required |
| Visual | Uniform look, space for a brand mark | Minimal obstruction, narrow edges |
| Quantity | Tens to hundreds from one version | One piece, every size different |
On acrylic, freight is the bigger cost risk, not production. Three basics: removable protective film on both faces; PE foam wrap on each unit before it goes in its own carton; corner protection and interleaving in the master carton so faces never rub.
Large covers ship better flat — top, base and sides separate — which cuts volume substantially at the cost of site assembly. We include an illustrated assembly sheet and bag the screws and clips per unit.
Overall height, base footprint, how many of each height, and whether it is retail or collector use. If you have a CAD file, send it; if not, a photo of the piece next to a ruler answers most of the questions we would otherwise ask.
Yes. Above 300 mm overall height we move the sides to 5 mm; above 450 mm we add metal corner brackets or an internal rib. Flex comes from sheet deflection, not from the strength of the bond.
Structurally yes, but we advise against it. A sealed box fogs internally when temperature swings and can grow mould in humid climates. A door gap under 1 mm plus a small vent or desiccant gives the dust protection without the condensation.
Solvent bonding leaves a very fine glue line — noticeable from the front on clear sheet, nearly invisible from the edge. Where a completely clean look is required we use clip-and-gasket construction or move the joint to the back and base.
Yes, with a battery box or rechargeable module; runtime depends on strip length and brightness. For permanent retail display we recommend mains power with a routed cable exit. Electrical parts are sourced to your market's certification requirements or supplied by you.
Yes — MOQ is one piece. Each size is a separate cutting and setting job, so the unit price sits above a single-size run; the difference comes down to sheet yield and cutting time, and we quote those two separately.
Sketches, CAD files or reference photos are all fine to start. MOQ 1 pc · 7-day sampling.
